At the end of the first week of November, the Bishop of the Prelature of Labrea, Santiago Sánchez, an Augustinian Recollect, visited Romareda School (Zaragoza, Spain).
First, Bishop Santiago visited the Augustinian Recollect community; later, he greeted primary teachers and students in the courtyard of the school and then went to the dining room and had a closer and more fraternal encounter. He thanked the spiritual and material support given by the professors, management team and Augustinian Recollect friars of the School.
After this, Bishop Santiago dedicated half the morning, accompanied by his nephew Pedro, to make known to the students of the third cycle of Primary, 2º of ESO and 4º ESO their evangelizing work, social action and the difficulties aggravated by the pandemic COVID-19 in the Labrea mission.
Based on photographs of his missionary work, the bishop of Labrea explained to the students his “missionary itinerary 2021”. It began with the arrival of the vaccines against COVID-19 and continued with the celebration of First Communions and the material aid given to the Esperanza Centers; He dedicated a special memory to his mother, who died in the middle of this year and concluded by highlighting the importance of defending the rights and traditions of the indigenous people of the Amazon.
What most captivated the students of the Romareda School, of Bishop Santiago’s presentation was the testimony of Sister Cleusa R. Coelho, an Augustinian Recollect missionary murdered in the Amazon for trying to bring peace among the indigenous people. Santiago Sánchez showed photographs of the popular demonstration held each year to ask for peace and respect for the rights of the peoples in the Amazon.
The Augustinian Recollect bishop concluded by encouraging the adolescents and children of the school to have a volunteer experience, and ended by thanking the Romareda School for their support of the Prelature of Labrea.
