Close to 70 students started their trip to Monteagudo, leaving the school at 8 am. A little after an hour, they were already in the monastery where the community’s prior, Fr. Javier Jimenez, welcomed all in the Shrine of Our Lady of the Way.

The students were divided into groups to get to know the objective for the new school year in all the Augustinian Recollect schools and colleges all over the world: “Together we build God’s house.”

Another group got to take a monastery tour guided by the Prior and Fr. Hector Molina. They got to hear about the monastery’s history and learn the names of the different spaces that constitute a monastery: Cloister, orchards, chapels, St. Ezekiel’s room, etc.

When the different smaller groups took turns doing the tour, other activities such as icebreakers and contests insisted on the motto. The novices prepared a vocational activity. Students and teachers received different colored bracelets which read, “St. Ezekiel Moreno, pray for us.” Groups were divided by colors to immediately start with the first challenge, which focused on the importance of prayer to discern one’s vocation, the second challenge included a video which talked about vocation in general, and the third stop was in the monastery’s cloister where the novices used what looked like a boat to share a talk about vocation to the religious life and priesthood, especially describing what the novitiate was in the process of formation: Navigators on the ship of the Church.

Lunch took place on the cemented soccer court. After eating, they played, walked, or simply rested. The teachers were invited to the monastery’s refectory to share lunch with the religious and novices.

The moment came to say farewell and head back to Zaragoza. They left the monastery at 3:30 pm. You could see from everyone’s face that they enjoyed the visit. This activity is usually done every year.
