Discerning in community
Preparation of chapters in the Order of Augustinians Recollects and in the Province of Saint Nicholas
On April 26th, the Prior General of the Augustinians Recollects has communicated to the whole Order the date of the beginning of the celebration of the General Chapter: March 1, 2022. The Subsequent Beginning of the Chapter of the Province of St. Nicholas of Tolentine is planned on July 4, 2022. The dates are determined on the basis of the will of the Prior General and the provincial chapters to strengthen communion in the projects of life and mission to be proposed to both the Order and the Provinces. Hence, first of all, the General Chapter lays down guidelines for the concretement that the Provinces will make afterwards.
Training for better discernment
In the Province, the provincial prior, advised by the provincial council, is asked in a particular way to guide, encourage, make decisions, promote the collaboration of all religious. The provincial prior, Sergio Sánchez, participated in a day of discernment that had as their theme the "Spiritual discernment for decision-making by the governing bodies of religious congregations". Development included:
- The Elements to consider, the process and method to be followed for effective decision-making.
- Common discernment for mission.
- The incorporation of discernment into the decision-making processes of governing bodies and their members.
The days were in virtual mode.
After these Days the Provincial Prior asked one of the speakers, Jaime Badilla Villa, Jesuit, economist and theologian, to have a morning of sessions with the provincial council. He has held various positions of responsibility and government and is currently Administrator of the Province of Spain of the Society of Jesus.
Common discernment for the mission
The Meeting of the Council of the Province of Saint Nicholas of Tolentine and Jaime Badilla took place in the provincial curia of Paseo de la Habana, in Madrid. It was face-to-face and facilitated dialogue. Jaime Badilla presented as the basis for discernment the experience, like Ignatius of Loyola, who set out in the Spiritual Exercises to distinguish to choose.
Much of the sessions were devoted to a dialogue that attendees considered very fruitful from decisions they had to make in the service of government in the Province. In organizing the meeting, the Provincial Prior, Sergio Sánchez, also intended to prepare everyone for which we will have to continue taking with the closeness of the chapters.
