JAR party for 400 years of the Province of San Nicolás de Tolentino
From the moment the 400-year-old celebration was announced for the entire Province and a basic programme of activities was presented, the young leaders of the Augustinian Recollect communities, together with their respective advisers, Augustinian Recollects of the Province, agreed to become present at this commemoration. Thus, from October 2020, different online meetings were held to celebrate with a youthful face the 400 years of the Province of San Nicolás de Tolentino, Order of Augustinian Recollects. The participation of the young people of the JAR- Juventudes Agustino Recoletas - was always enthusiastic and creative both when making proposals and when the activities to be carried out were decided.
Since the Team appointed for the coordination of the festivities of the 400 years of the Province, assigned to the youth of the JAR in December, a program of different activities and events was raised for the whole month:
- preparing petitions for religious to pray for young Augustinians,
- the publication of various views on Augustinian Recollect youth ministry in the Province,
- commentary on Sunday readings in December,
- video making with the testimony of some young jars in the different geographical areas where there are JAR communities,
- and the elaboration of explanatory videos of what JAR are and the Christian path that young people make through the JAR Itinerary.
But, without a doubt, the star event of the month dedicated to JAR was the "FesteJAR". The objective of this initiative was to celebrate in a festive atmosphere the 400 years of the Province of San Nicolás de Tolentino in the style of young people, with different events and activities transmitted by social networks, in which the members of the JAR could share, reflect and thank God for the Province and for the mission that for four centuries has carried out in the world and in the Church. In order to carry out these activities, working commissions were created among the youth of the JAR groups.
It was up to the JAR of Costa Rica and Honduras to encourage the event and to develop advertising about it. It was up to the JAR in Mexico City to coordinate the issue of FesteJAR registrations and the formation of international teams for the various activities to be proposed. Each team was named after a relevant missionary or missionary in our Recollect Order or Province.
The JAR of Chiclana de la Frontera (Cadiz, Spain) took over the presentation of FesteJAR. The JAR of Chihuahua, Mexico organized different activities and challenges for the teams, as a competition. The JAR of Querétaro, Mexico held a concert-prayer to thank God and feed the sense of mission. And finally, the JAR of Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil, encouraged the closing Eucharist of the FesteJAR.
FesteJAR had a lot of impact on social media. It was thanks to the work of those responsible for the advertising of the event, that it echoed a lot of each of the activities in the digital spaces. An "#JAR400SNT" upg was created and each of the activities were added both to the Facebook profile of the Province of San Nicolás de Tolentino and to the different profiles of the JAR groups, always tagging each other. The different groups faced the challenges with creativity and enthusiasm, and this could be noticed in the "likes" that their publications received. Several young religious and training houses participated in these challenges. Both the presentation of the FesteJAR, as well as the concert-prayer and the closing Eucharist were broadcast live on the Youtube channels of the local communities and the facebook live of the aforementioned Province.
At the end of the FesteJAR, several participants expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to have shared the charism with young people from other groups of the Province. Language was never an obstacle to addressing the various challenges and challenges posed to teams. At the events that took place, the same young people organized themselves to make some of their interventions in both Spanish, English and Portuguese.
In total, nearly 120 young people from the JAR groups participated, including some of the formations of the different formation houses of the Province, and some young religious. It is worth noting the participation of Sergio Sánchez Moreno, provincial prior of the Province of San Nicolás de Tolentino, in the concert-prayer of the Festejar, which was based in the parish of the Divine Redeemer of Lomas de Casablanca (Querétaro, Mexico). In his speech he encouraged us to live the present of the mission with passion and to let ourselves be excited about Jesus, in the style of St Augustine and St Nicholas of Tolentino. "The passion for mission comes to us from Jesus Christ and his passion for humanity; the passion to incarnate to walk with each of us. That passion is the expression of the first love, of the love of youth, of the love of encounter."
Undoubtedly, the great challenge of FesteJAR was to have summoned young people who had distanced the the groups by the coronavirus pandemic. Even, despite the saturation of young people, in general, by over-connection to digital platforms and social networks, there was a very good participation in the various activities scheduled.
The challenges were posed in the competition mode, which allowed the teams to put more enthusiasm and interest in the realization of the challenges. And although they didn't do it for the award, the FesteJAR coordinating team decided to reward the winners. The team that came in third place was digitally given the book 50 questions about St Augustine,by the Augustinus recoleto Enrique Eguiarte. The second one, some commemorative cups of the FesteJAR. And at first, some commemorative T-shirts of the FesteJAR.
