The Augustinians Recollects at the forefront against the prevention of child sexual abuse
In an effort to create healthy educational environments, Augustinians' schools invest in the formation of collaborators in order to create a collective awareness of the importance of prevention of child abuse, a theme that has hit the Church in recent years.
The conference held 7 sessions over two weeks addressing various topics of practical aspects to implement in the proper functioning of the centers and exhibited by experts in various fields of Human Sciences and Communication.
The first week addressed issues that contextualize sexual abuse in a variety of areas. On Monday, October 5, Dr. Irma Patricio Espinoza, professor at the Pontifical University of Mexico (UPM), presented the theme Mistreatment and Abuse in Infancy. On Tuesday and Thursday of the first week, the Augustinian recollect Antonio Carrón presented Cyberbullying as a form of child abuse within schools and Institutional Communication as a necessary means for transparency when communicating institutional crises. On Wednesday, October 7, Dr. Ilva Myriam Hoyos, President of the Council for the Protection of Children and Vulnerable Persons of the Episcopal Conference of Colombia, lectured on International Standards and Good Practices for Prevention. The week concluded with the presentation of the topic Attitudes and Actions in the face of the unveiling of an abuse against a child or adolescent, exhibited by Mr. María Inés Franck, member of the Pastoral Council for the Protection of Minors of the Argentine Episcopal Conference.
The week from October 12 to 15 focused on practical teachings for the implementation of preventive measures in schools. On this occasion the dissertation corresponded to the Professor María Josefina Martínez, advisor and member of the National Council for the Prevention of Abuse and accompaniment of victims of the Episcopal Conference of Chile in two sessions, on Monday and Wednesday, with the theme of Child Sexual Abuse: preventive models and competencies showing a picture for the adaptation of standards in schools. On Tuesday, October 13, the Jesuit Carlos Ignacio Man Ging presented the theme Prevention of Abuse in Educational Centers. The conference included a new participation of Attorney María Inés Franck, this time with the presentation The Checklist of Prevention in Schools.
As part of the training process, CEPROME offered attendees access to a digital library with complementary materials for training in the prevention of sexual abuse in religious contexts, as well as recordings of the presentations.
