The Augustinian Recollect Jordan Tijerino, was ordained deacon at the feast of the twentieth anniversary of the presence of that Order in Guaraciaba
The week of November 18-24 was festive for the Guaratian Catholic people, which has joyfully celebrated two great moments of spiritual and social character: the twentieth anniversary of the arrival of the Augustinian Recollects to the Parish of Our Lady of Joys of Guaraciaba do Norte, in 1999; and the diaconal ordination of Jordan Tijerino (Rivas, Nicaragua, 1988), a religious Augustinian who has carried out the last stage of his novitiate, the year of community and pastoral integration, in the community of Guaraciaba.
By the 21st, the main liturgical celebration had been scheduled. The Mass began at six-thirty at night with the entrance of the representatives carrying the presentation posters of each of the 50 base communities that make up the parish, thus symbolizing the union of the people with the Augustinian Recollects for 20 years.
The entrance procession featured the altar boys and the thurifer, cross and candles, the ministers of communion and the Word, followed by Friar Jordan and the concelebrants. Among them we highlight Friar Jesús María López Mauleón, Augustinian Recollect recently appointed bishop of the new Prelatura of Alto Xingú – Tucumo, inPará, Brazil; and Bishop Francisco Javier Hernández, emeritus of Tianguá, Diocese to which the Parish of Guaraciaba belongs.
The two had a definite role in this history of the Augustinian Recollect Family in the Brazilian Northeast: Francisco Javier was the first to arrive when he was appointed as bishop of Tianguá; for years he asked his Order to start a community. Finally, it was in 1999 that he got the Province of San Nicolás de Tolentino de los Agustinos Recollects, to which he himself belonged and which until then had only acted in the state of Amazonas, to form that community.
Precisely a member of that first founding community in Guaraciaba do Norte was Friar Jesús María. Years later came the contemplative Recoletas Augustinian nuns, the Seglar Agustino-Recoleta Fraternity and the Augustinian-Recoletas Youth, and even religious from the Northeast region.
The Eucharist continued as usual until the proclamation of the Gospel, when the rites of diaconal ordination began: choice of candidate, homily (which Bishop Hernandez saw both the twentieth anniversary and the diaconate), interrogation, litany, the laying on of hands, consecratory prayer, endowment of the dalmatics and the dedication of the Gospels.
The parish priest, the Augustinian Santiago Martínez, read a letter from the Bishop of Tianguá, EdimilsonNeves, congratulating everyone; and Friar Jesus Mary and the new deacon also thanked the 20 years of the presence of the Augustinian Recollects in the Parish and diaconal ordination, respectively.
During thanksgiving, the image of the five Collective Augustinian parish priests of these 20 years of history preceded a plaque of homage given to the current religious community. Then, at the Pastoral Center, a dinner was served at which he highlighted the celebration, congratulations and participation of the People singing and praising God for this unique moment of parish life.
