Members of the Vicariate of Mexico-Costa Rica evaluate the IFAR and participate in the Latin American Congress on child sexual abuse
Vicar Francisco Javier Acero on the first day of the event stressed confidentiality between each other, supervision of all members and educating on responsibilities in our training houses. The president of the Secretariat of formation of the Vicariate, the Augustinian Recollect Víctor González Marín, developed some topics: the project of San Pio X, the processes of formation and accompaniment and teamwork.
Since Wednesday, the trainers of the Vicariate, some trainers of the Province of Candelaria and the vicar participated in the congress on the prevention of sexual abuse of minors organized by CEPROME (Center for Research and Interdisciplinary Training), with the support of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors, the Conference of the Mexican Episcopate (CEM) and CELAM.
The conference was aimed at bishops, senior superiors and people who are working in the field of training, prevention, intervention on the subject of ecclesial sexual abuse. The speaker Monsignor Charles Scicluna, Archbishop of Malta and Deputy Secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith discussed the responsibility of the Superiors General in the subject against abuse, pastoral care for victims and ecclesial communities. Also, Archbishop Carlos Aguiar Retes spoke of the family and educational crisis and the change of mindset within the Church.
The president of the Center for the Protection of Minors of the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome, Father Hnas Zollner, discussed spiritual reform based on child sexual abuse and psychological care to the victim and perpetrators. The Archbishop of Chicago, Cardinal Blase Cupich, broached the theme of purification in the Church and Father Amedeo Cencini spoke of the mediocrity in religious communities, of the current system who is more focused on learning than on the affections and the sexuality of the neophytes, and of the need to advance in theology, spirituality and pastoral practice centered on the mystery of the love of Christ the Saviour, which cures the "mysterium iniquitatis " present in His Church. Cencini insisted on the care needed for the selection of candidates and having permanent training on this subject.
For his part, Archbishop Manuel Alí invited those in attendance not to open new commissions or open an “office” solely to comply with a requirement set by the ecclesiastical authorities. He issued the challenge to the Church by stressing the priorities that the church has for victims and their families within a spirituality in the prevention of sexual abuse.
Daniel Portillo Trevizo, director of CEPROME, member of the prevention and protection commission of the Order of Recollects and the Vicariate of Mexico, thanked the present, the Pontifical University of Mexico and the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome and the Order of Augustinians Recollects for the collaboration carried out in this Latin American Congress.
