A new temple to Our Lady of Consolation is underway in the Brazilian Sierra de Ibiapaba
The Catholic community of Passagem das Pedras, in the Brazilian municipality of Guaraciaba North, State of Ceará, is closer to inaugurating the new temple dedicated to the patron saint of this small rural population, Our Lady of Consolation a task that has been underway for the past six years.
On February 18th a Popular food event was held to finance some of the final missing aspects of the project, including flooring, welding, and painting. The Bishop emeritus of the Diocese of Tianguá (Ceará, Brazil), the Augustinian Recollect Francisco Javier Hernández, attended the event and was very impressed with what he saw.
"I’m just amazed with this construction project. At first I thought it was barely at foundations yet, but I’ve seen how well laid out it is and how well they are building it. "
Inside the temple under construction, where the event was held, everyone participated, including members of the rural community and visitors, who joyfully shared the moment.
Edilson Jerônimo, one of the members responsible for coordination of the grassroots community of Passagem das Pedras, explained the happiness they feel to see the project’s progress:
"The community makes it happen, the community has donated everything, even at this event, first they donated the food and now they’ve come to buy everyone coming together so nicely, that is what the church does, it unites everyone in favor of the community and the community’s needs for a common good ".
Nairon Alves is one of the volunteers, and a young member of this rural community, also involved in the construction and in the event’s organization, said:
"I feel great with a celebration like this because the young people here, this type of activity is good for us, participating in the community, putting forward our grain of salt, our time, so that everything gets ahead."
Luiz Das Chagas is a resident of Passagem das Pedras:
"The entire community, all pastoral groups, we help each other out and that makes everything easier, people communicate better and this is very important for the life of a small rural community like ours. "
Forthcoming is cooperation by local authorities, who are expected to cooperate with improvements of access to the new temple from CE-187 roadway, which unites Passagem das Pedras with the municipality’s downtown area and the urban area of Guaraciaba Do Norte.
