The life of the Agustinian Recollect Mariano Gazpio (Puente La Reina, Navarra, Spain, 1899 — Pamplona, Navarra, 1989) is especially meaningful for those who live in turbulent times, like us.

Among the lessons his life teaches are a constant sense of God’s presence; his dedication and responsibility; his willingness to embark on new paths and services; his recognition of himself as member and server of the Church and his ability to place commonality above self; his overcoming of his strong temperament to transform it into peace and serenity; his recognition of the good in everything—and everyone—; and his distance from hatred or prejudice.

He lived in times and places where violence was a constant; therefore, his values and behaviors are especially lucid and useful for those of us who live in social spaces of constant and hyperbolic discussion, of clashes of irreconcilable positions, between victimhood, unhappiness, and denialism.

This moderation and temperance of Fr. Mariano teach us not to succumb to the use of emotions over rationality, not to degrade our relationships through polarization or lies.

Father Mariano is the antithesis of this anxiety in times of crisis and change, with his faithfulness and dedication, his peaceful presence and simplicity, with his conscious choice for silence and understanding of others to make the best decision together.

Here you can find how to better approach this figure we propose because, for us, he is a source of growth, improvement, and happiness.
