The arrival of new kimonos for the beneficiaries of Saint Monica’s Home through an internal campaign promoted by CAGECE has encouraged the work carried out by trainer Júlio Silva.

Saint Monica’s Home, a project of the Augustinian Recollects in Fortaleza (Ceará, Brazil) that houses girls and adolescents sent by the competent authorities for having been victims of abuse, exploitation, violence or neglect, celebrates the arrival of new kimonos for practicing karate.

The beneficiaries of Saint Monica’s Home have been practicing this sport for almost four years. Trainer Júlio Silva volunteers to teach this martial art with a program duly recognized and authorized by the Juvenile Court.

This practice goes beyond simply learning martial techniques: it promotes mental and physical balance, strengthens self-esteem, encourages behaviors carried out with discipline and strengthens the resilience of the participants.

Karate has become a powerful tool for the beneficiaries of Saint Monica’s Home to develop self-confidence and learn to overcome challenges with courage and determination. It also greatly encourages the group as such, strengthening mutual affection and companionship.

A partnership with the Water and Sewage Company of the State of Ceara (CAGECE), which supports social initiatives and sports as a tool for transforming lives, has allowed the arrival of new kimonos for the practice of karate.

On Saturday, February 8, an exciting event was held to officially deliver the kimonos. CAGECE mobilized the efforts of many to secure this important attire, essential for the practice of karate.

Wearing the kimono represents respect, equality and commitment. It also strengthens group identity and encourages the girls to grow and evolve. Each movement taught on the mat is a lesson in overcoming obstacles, and each kimono is a reminder that, with support and dedication, the beneficiaries can build and be protagonists of a more dignified and hopeful future.

The emotion and gratitude were great when each material was delivered to the beneficiaries, because receiving the kimono was also a recognition for their effort in learning and a reward for having remained constant.

The union of civil society, represented by volunteer Júlio Silva, of socially responsible companies represented by CAGECE and of social projects such as Saint Monica’s Home directly impacts the lives of people in vulnerable situations, offering opportunities and tools for a more promising future.
