Ezekiel Moreno is one of the Augustinian Recollect religious who best embodied the spirituality and charism of this religious Family. John Paul II proposed him at his canonization as a model of dedication to God and of evangelization. We propose some aspects of the life of the saint, special protector of cancer patients.

Apostolate and religious life were inseparable for Ezekiel. He never had any difficulty in combining community life with service to the People of God; for him they were interdependent realities in the warmth of the same core, the love of God; something like two sides of the same coin.

It is difficult to understand how he squeezed the hours of the day for prayer, community life and pastoral service. When he did not arrive in person, he made use of letters and the press. Because of his very special way of doing it, he was called to preach, advise and guide people of all kinds, from the high society of Bogotá to the most isolated rural world, passing through monasteries, hospitals and prisons.

Ezekiel knew the offices of power, but his heart was with the disadvantaged. He put on the table the abandoned territories, Palawan and Mindoro in the Philippines, Casanare, Caquetá and Tumaco in Colombia; He demanded that political and economic power put an end to the ignorance and indifference of the capitals towards them.

In this area, his interest in educating the people and establishing doctrine in circulars, pastoral letters and pamphlets on the most burning issues of his time is explained. This is the root of his confrontation with radical liberalism, which caused him so many problems.
