On the same day as the fifth anniversary of the episcopal ordination of Jesús Maria López Mauleon, an Augustinian Recollect, as bishop of the Prelacy, the ceremony of blessing the cornerstone of the new episcopal house of the Prelacy of Alto Xingu – Tucumã took place on December 29.
On Sunday, December 29, the Prelacy of Alto Xingu celebrated the fifth anniversary of the episcopal ordination of the first bishop, the Augustinian Recollect Jesus Maria Lopez Mauleon, with the blessing and laying of the cornerstone on the land where the new episcopal house will be built.
A large number of faithful from the local Catholic community of Tucumã (Pará, Brazil) attended this ceremony with great emotion, due to the profound meaning of the construction, in addition to a material asset and a residence, of the local Church itself, which is thus meeting its needs.
The new house will not only be the bishop’s residence, but also the headquarters for new services to the people of God and a space where much of the life of the local Church will take place, such as meetings, debates, negotiation of partnerships, private dialogues to encourage pastoral agents and clergy, and the bishop’s own rest, study and prayer.
The bishop, in fact, emphasized the importance of the episcopal house for the Church not only as a physical space, but as a symbol of faith and the commitment of the faithful to live in unity. The cornerstone, blessed by the bishop, “represents Jesus Christ himself, the solid foundation on which the house will be built”.
It was placed in a prominent place, exactly where the altar of the chapel that will be inside the house will be erected. The rite served to ask God for his blessing on the work, as well as to remind the faithful that the house to be built of stone will be “a visible sign of the living Church of the Father, a symbol of the true foundation that is Christ, as well as of the place where it was laid, and on which the house will be built”.
That same December 29th, bishop Jesús María completed five years of his episcopal ordination as bishop of the newly erected Prelacy of Alto Xingu – Tucumã.
