Deacon Ordination of José Antonio Hernández, OAR. City of Mexico, 11/03/2024.

On November 3, in the Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe of the Hospitals in Mexico City, the Augustinian Recollect José Antonio Hernández (Malinalco, State of Mexico, Mexico, 1990) was ordained deacon by Francisco Javier Acero, Augustinian Recollect and auxiliary bishop of Mexico.

The Augustinian Recollect Family in Mexico City joyfully celebrated the diaconal ordination of the Augustinian Recollect José Antonio Hernández, two weeks after having made his solemn profession and the day after having made the profession of faith and the promise of fidelity in a private ceremony that took place in the Panteón Jardín cemetery in Mexico City, during the commemoration of all the faithful departed.

The diaconal ordination took place in the Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe of the Hospitals, in the Colonia Doctores of Mexico City. The ceremony was presided over by the auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Mexico, the Augustinian Recollect Francisco Javier Acero.

The family of the new transitional deacon was on his side during the ordination, as well as his religious family: twelve friars Recollects concelebrated and there were representatives of the entire Augustinian Recollect Family: contemplative nuns, Augustinian Recollect missionaries, the Secular Fraternity and Augustinian-Recollect Youth.

The new deacon had until now resided in the Saint Pius X House in Querétaro as part of his last stage of initial formation, in the year of community and pastoral insertion. After his diaconal ordination he will be assigned to the Parish of Hospitals for a new pastoral service.

In his homily, the bishop recalled and thanked the new deacon for his recent perpetual adhesion to the Augustinian Recollect consecrated life, while encouraging him to take his new mission in Hospitals seriously:

“This community is interconnected with society, which allows you to live and give yourself in community. This interconnection is with the most needy and the most vulnerable, you must include them in your daily rhythm of life: parish, hospitals, funeral homes, CARDI Center and, above all, your own community.”

He also asked him to join the shared mission with the laity, “in a network with the entire Church, which is a way of showing love for God and accompanying Christ who suffers today in different scenarios,” from total availability in service and charity, close to the poor and needy.

And he also invited the new deacon not to forget prayer, the desire for God and to keep his own dreams with hope: “The Lord does not want comfortable religious, he wants religious in love.”

At the end of the liturgical celebration, and so that everyone had the opportunity to congratulate and greet the new deacon, everyone met again at the facilities of the Comprehensive Development Accompaniment and Recovery Center (CARDI), where an aperitif was served.
