The city of Saragossa mobilizes on each Solemnity of Our Lady of Pilar. The Romareda School of the Augustinian Recollects joins this celebration and devotion, organizes activities with the entire educational community and is present at the massive offering.
The educational community of the Romareda School of the Augustinian Recollects in Saragossa actively participates in the life of its city, reinforcing its integration into local society and being present to promote its educational values within the Augustinian Recollect ideology in all possible areas.
Wednesday, October 9 was the last school day before the festive days within the school calendar. For this reason, the Primary students celebrated a Eucharist to thank God for the constant presence of Our Lady of Pilar in which the students sang, prayed and actively participated.
The school participated for the second year in the so-called Offering of Fruits, an activity with religious roots and a charitable objective. It is about sharing with the disadvantaged the fruits received during the year. Thus, the families of Primary Section offered pieces of fruit, vegetables and greens whose final destination was the Brotherhood of the Refuge of Saragossa, which carries out social works focused on children, passers-by and the delivery of basic necessities (clothing and food).
It is already a classic participation of the Romareda School as an institution in the Offering of Flowers, this year very early, since the Recollect educational center’s turn came at 8:38 in the morning. The procession was made up of students, former students, parents, teachers and Recollect religious. One of them, Sigifredo Udabe, is the spiritual animator of the day.
With great enthusiasm and devotion they offered their bouquets of flowers to the Virgin and asked for her protection. As one of the attendees, a mother of a student at the school, pointed out, “it is a tradition that I have inherited from my parents and I am excited to continue coming with my children every year.”
At the end of the day, a mantle had been formed with nearly eight million red carnations (since it is an even-numbered year) distributed in bunches. The guest country of the event was Guatemala, whose flag was present on the floral mantle and whose culture and devotion to the Virgin was especially disseminated on this day.
