CARDI, City of Mexico. Beginning of the Academic Year 2024-2025. Augustinian Recollects.

In addition to the traditional workshops and conferences, new proposals have been added, such as advice for the care of the elderly or personal and group therapy sessions in person or virtually, which reach a broader spectrum of interested parties.

Rapport

Since September 3, the first workshop, entitled “Developing Rapport: the fundamental skill of communication”, has begun. It lasts three months, on Tuesdays from 6 to 8 pm, and is taught by Gabriela Villamil, who has a Master in Communication, a degree in Graphic Design, and a master’s degree in Neurolinguistic Programming.

Rapport is a technique for achieving positive human interactions. In this course can be learnt how to build solid and genuine connections with other people, facilitating effective communication and the establishment of positive personal and professional relationships.

The word “rapport” comes from French term for “relationship” or “connection”. It refers to the creation of trust and empathy so that people feel more comfortable and safer in each other’s company, in psychological and emotional “harmony”, either because they feel as similar human beings or relate well to each other.

Depression

On Wednesday, September 18 at 11 a.m., the face-to-face conference “Depression in today’s society” will take place, given by Carlos Díaz Hernández, university professor of Philosophy and history of religions, author of more than 150 publications and winner of various awards in the humanistic field.

Depression is a reality that many people face in silence. In times of uncertainty and change, it is crucial to understand and address this condition with empathy and knowledge. The conference will identify the challenges and provide practical support tools for those who need it.

Self-esteem

On Saturday, September 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., the single session of the workshop “Dare to rescue yourself” will take place, given by Adelaida Ayala, teacher in Gestalt Therapy and specialist in therapies through dance and movement.

The objective of this workshop is for the person to be able to strengthen self-confidence through movement and play; it seeks to improve self-esteem and discover how to enjoy and love oneself.

Socratic dialogue method

On Monday, September 23, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with a duration of three months and in virtual mode, the workshop “Come and Talk like Socrates” begins, by Gabriel Martínez, a graduate in Theology, teacher in Gestalt therapy and Philosophy.

Its proposal is based on the assistant knowing the principles and dynamics of the Socratic dialogue so that they can apply them in the specific situations of their existence.

Growth and well-being

On Tuesday, September 24, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and in virtual mode, there will be the conference “Discover your interior: The key to personal growth and emotional well-being”, given by Jorge Alvarado, thanatologist and graduate in Neurolinguistic Programming.

The objective is to explore and highlight the importance of self-knowledge as an essential pillar for personal growth and emotional well-being. Registration is completely free.

Cutting and self-harm

On Friday, September 27, from 12 to 2 pm, in hybrid mode (in person and virtual), the conference entitled: “Cutting syndrome: the cry of silence” will take place, given by Jesús Edgar Dueñas, a psychologist specializing in addictions and human development.

The focus will be on the causes, consequences and attention to non-suicidal self-harming behaviors that are carried out in different areas of the body leaving marks, such as cuts, burns, blows or erosions (intense scratching).

Normally they show the inability to face a difficulty or pain, thoughts that are difficult to bear or desperate feelings. They transfer this lack of control to another harmful action that can be controlled: self-harm. The incidence and prevalence of these practices has increased in recent years, mainly in children and teenagers.

Thanatology

On Wednesday, October 2, the Theoretical Thanatology Diploma will begin, which will be held for 13 months on Wednesdays, from 6 to 8 pm. The student will obtain a deep theoretical foundation of Thanatology and will learn about aspects related to death or grief, among others.

The objective of the thanatologist is to help overcome the suffering of the person at each stage of grief, through respect and understanding as guides. CARDI is one of the few specialist institutions in this area in Mexico.

Care of the elderly

CARDI offers a new gerontological referral service whose objective is to provide the tools to ensure that the elderly receive the whole care they deserve.

To this end, anyone who asks this CARDI service will receive a comprehensive gerontological assessment of the person who requires care, from aspects such as biology, psychology and social assistance.

CARDI professionals will help establish, identify and prioritize the real needs in each case, creating a personalized intervention plan to achieve the greatest possible independence, autonomy and quality of life for the elderly.

A total of four sessions per elderly person is recommended to carry out the assessment and detection of needs in all areas: clinical, functional, affective, cognitive, psychosocial, nutritional.

This service is offered on Thursdays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the collaboration of Michel Cortés Mendizábal, gerontologist.

Teens

On Fridays, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., a group therapy is offered for parents of adolescents entitled “My son, my mirror: tools for living parenthood.” It is taught by Monse Ramírez, a master in Gestalt Therapy and a graduate in Social Work. It is face-to-face.

Also at this same time, Friday from 3 to 4:30 p.m., José Antonio Álvarez, a Gestalt Therapy teacher and psychology graduate, offers a group therapy for high school adolescents entitled “Am I? Are we? We build!”. It is offered in face-to-face system.

These therapies are offered both in person and virtually and are useful for anyone who feels overwhelmed by any life circumstance.
