Triangular Solidarity Tournament Navaleno for Mexico.

The Augustinian Recollect Honorio Calvo, a missionary in Mexico, promotes awareness of social projects in his hometown in the country where he lives and works with the collaboration of local society and sports entities.

For the seventeenth year, the town of Navaleno (776 inhabitants) in Soria, has celebrated the Triangular Charity Football Tournament in the atmosphere prior to its summer festivities with the participation of the Navaleno Sports Club, the veterans team of Numancia, a team from the capital of the province, and Sporting Uxama, from the town of El Burgo de Osma.

At the Vicente Peña Municipal Field, the players, coaching staff and family members of the three teams were present, as well as a large part of the people of Navaleno, who wanted not only to enjoy the matches but also to raise awareness and support a soup kitchen for vulnerable elderly people in Querétaro, Mexico, where Father Honorio (Navaleno, 1948) currently lives and works.

The trophy went to the veteran team of Numancia, who beat Navaleno 1-0 and tied 1-1 with Uxama.

Those attending collaborated with a donation that they offered at the entrance, as well as a “Row 0” for those who wish to collaborate with the project but cannot attend the sports day. The tournament was scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 11.

Navaleno is located in Tierra de Pinares, an area of the province of Soria dominated by Scots pine and pinaster pine and with a significant presence of wild boar, roe deer, deer, wolves, badgers, foxes and hares, within the Urbión Regional Hunting Reserve.

The wood processing industry is very important throughout the region, with furniture, pallets and packaging factories, carpentry and wild and mycological products.

The parish church is dedicated to Saint Stephen Protomartyr, has only one floor and is covered with a gabled wood roof. The Triangular Solidarity Tournament is usually held around the most crowded festivals, from August 14 to 18, in honor of San Roque and the Assumption of the Virgin, with its charity festival in the meadow of the Fuente del Botón, in which a ration of meat, bread and wine is distributed to those present, according to an ancient tradition.
