The president and vice president of the International Solidarity Network of the Augustinian Recollect Family have met with the social work teams and the beneficiaries of the two projects in the city: the Saint Mónica Home and the Saint Augustine Psychosocial Center.
Between May 27 and June 4, the president of ARCORES, the International Augustinian Recollect Solidarity Network, Jaazeal Jakosalen, and the vice president, José Alberto Moreno, both Augustinian Recollects, have visited the projects developed by the Augustinian Recollect Family. in the city of Fortaleza, Ceará, in Brazil: the Saint Mónica Home and the Saint Augustine Psychosocial Care Center (CAPSA).
It was the first time that the president of the Augustinian Recollect ONGD visited these projects, but not the vice president, who was strongly linked to both since he was the first manager of the Benevolent Association of the Augustinian Recollects in Fortaleza (ABARF), a legal entity that supports both.
The objective of the visit was to reinforce and implement the commitment of the Augustinian-Recollect Family with these projects, learn about their current status, evaluate the activities carried out and confirm the immediate plans and future collaborations.
In any case, it is about improving the lives of those who are the main objective of these projects: the girls and adolescents sheltered in the Saint Mónica Home by court order after having suffered some type of abuse or violence and the vulnerable families of the Jangurussu neighborhood.
President and vice president of ARCORES met with the care team of Saint Monica Home, made up of the management, the psychosocial care team and the regents of the shelters where the beneficiaries live in a way that is most similar to a family home.
The challenges of daily work and the goals achieved were discussed, with some truly exciting examples of the positive impact caused on these small lives that, however, have already gone through enormous difficulties. The leaders of ARCORES International encouraged the team to continue forward with their tasks.
The strategies for improving the projects and the ABARF-ARCORES collaboration were also outlined to obtain resources and guarantee the sustainability of all social action. In the case of CAPSA, the social assistance, training, care for women and food security programs have an important impact on the beneficiaries, but it depends very directly on the available resources.
The members of ARCORES International had the opportunity to visit families in the Jangurussu neighborhood served by CAPSA, homes in which they were received with love and attention. They learned their stories and needs and offered words of encouragement and comfort.
ARCORES and the Augustinian Recollect Family work in this Brazilian region with boys and girls, adolescents, young people, mothers who are heads of families without resources, in a collective effort for social justice and people’s rights.
