The quality of the professional and academic training of the socio-educational project of the Augustinian Recollects in Costa Rica depends on continued and permanent contact with real companies.
The preparation of the beneficiaries of the Children’s City, a socio-educational project of the Augustinian Recollects in Costa Rica, includes all the necessary aspects to achieve the future well-being of each student. By offering a comprehensive education, work life is also taken care of from the beginning of learning.
For this reason, an adequate, permanent and strong relationship is maintained both with companies and professionals, as well as with training specialists in different areas who, with their knowledge and experiences shared with students, help to significantly improve their performance.
We can take as an example what happened during the month of May 2024: in addition to the usual programming of classrooms and workshops, students had the opportunity to learn by doing and learn by seeing: doing, gaining confidence in their own performance.
As soon as May began, paramedic Manuel Quesada offered a basic first aid course, with a certificate included. In professional and work environments, knowing how to act in the event of an accident or a sudden health problem can mean the difference between a scare and a tragedy.
A few days later, occupational health was once again a reference, this time with professionals from the Distribuidora Romero company. Loading and unloading, storage, transportation and permanent contact with potentially dangerous elements require permanent and active attention from the worker. Identifying risks, reporting them on time and acquiring prevention habits save a lot of trouble.
In the case of Precision Mechanics, 11th and 12th year students had the opportunity to take a pedagogical tour of the facilities of the National Learning Institute (INA) El Coyol, in Alajuela. They learned about various computer numerical control (CNC) machines for manufacturing processes, as well as the use of measuring instruments in test tests.
For their part, the livestock students went to Expoalimentaria to learn about meat and dairy companies. They checked in situ the latest technologies in this productive sector.
At the end of the month, the Electromechanics students visited the Cachí plant of the Costa Rican Institute of Electricity (ICE). They learned about the entire generation process and each of the parts of a hydroelectric plant.
That same day, the 9th year Cabinetry students visited the facilities of HDM Furnishings, a company specialized in wood and a leader in advanced technologies.
Train the trainers
To maintain educational quality, trainers also need permanent learning and updating. On May 24, the psychologists of the Children’s City Accompaniment Area received Leda Beirute, a professor and researcher at the University of Costa Rica, a pioneer in Educational Psychology in the country, an area to which she has been dedicated for more than thirty years. years.
The City’s psychologists spoke with her about the role of Educational Psychology and the importance it has in creating a positive mental health environment in adolescents and young people through educational activity itself.
