Some of the treasures of the history of the Province of Saint Nicholas of Tolentine of the Order of Augustinian Recollects and the environments and spaces where it has carried out its work throughout history and today.
The Centres of Augustinian Recollect Spirituality (CEAR, Centros de Espiritualidad Agustino-Recoleta) are ministries aimed at offering training and spiritual experiences rooted in the Augustinian Recollect charism. Their origin is a response to the Church’s call for new forms of presence in the world, the priority objective of the 124th Provincial Chapter in 2003—Fraternal Life and Shared Mission—and the continuous echo of No. 279 of the Constitutions:
“Our communities can and must be centres of prayer, recollection, and both personal and communal dialogue with God. By generously offering initiatives and concrete services that are contemplative and communal, we enable the People of God to find in us true teachers of prayer and agents of communion and peace in the Church and the world.”
These centres were established with the desire to offer comprehensive human, religious, and Augustinian formation to the People of God for the new millennium. The areas in which they develop their activities include:
- Human growth and development: Courses and workshops designed to foster self-knowledge through Augustinian introspection and encounters with the inner Teacher.
- Personal accompaniment.
- Social action: Immediate and missionary ministries.
- Experiences: Silent retreats, spiritual exercises, and Augustinian Prayer Workshops.
- Formation: Biblical, philosophical, theological, catechetical, doctrinal, charismatic, and spiritual.
Since 2013, the Querétaro Centre of Augustinian Recollect Spirituality has managed Recoletos TV, a television channel connected to Catholic networks via satellite.
The Centres of Augustinian Recollect Spirituality are overseen by a team of religious and laypeople typically affiliated with the Secular Augustinian Recollect Fraternity. Currently, the general coordination is conducted from the general curia. The Province of Saint Nicholas operates the Centre of Augustinian Recollect Spirituality in three countries:
- Mexico (2003): Mexico City, Querétaro, and Chihuahua, sharing infrastructure at the CARDI building in Mexico City and the House of Recollection located in Ahuatepec (Morelos).
- Costa Rica (2010): The central office is in Pozos de Santa Ana, with mobile offices across all ministries.
- Spain (2015): Two offices in Madrid, specifically, Santa Rita Parish and the San Agustín Formation House in Las Rozas.
