The new infrastructure makes it possible to guarantee the supply of water in quantity and quality to more than fifty people who are present every day in this socio-educational project, between beneficiaries and service teams.
After months of joint effort, the Water Resources Management Company (COGERH), the Superintendence of Hydraulic Works (SOHIDRA) and the Socio-Environmental Advisory COGERH, in collaboration with the Benevolent Association of the Augustinian Recollects of Fortaleza (ABARF), celebrates the installation and inauguration of a new water well in Saint Monica Home.
The Saint Monica Home is a social project of the Augustinian Recollect Family in Fortaleza (Ceará, Brazil) that provides comprehensive and permanent care (24 hours a day, 7 days a week) to girls and adolescents sent by the competent authorities because they have suffered in their family environment any violation of their rights.
More specifically, it assists victims of abuse, exploitation, abandonment, or violence, with protection and prevention measures, psychosocial care, personal recovery, and establishment of attitudes and tools to return to a healthy personal and social life.
Due to this provision of permanent accommodation for the beneficiaries and because they have an extensive and multidisciplinary team to attend to them, water needs are important: direct consumption, personal hygiene, cleaning, care of green areas and gardens… In the end, around 50 people are present at Saint Monica Home every day.
The installation of this new well not only guarantees continuous and safe access to water but also represents a significant achievement because it reduces the maintenance costs of the project and definitively leaves behind any risk of shortages.
Since December 2023, several entities and professionals have joined forces to make this dream come true. Institutional collaboration was essential to overcome the technical challenges and logistics involved in the installation of the well.
Every financial, technical, or moral contribution has been essential to the success of this initiative. The final result improves this structure allowing the creation of a safe and welcoming environment, suitable for care and attention so that the beneficiaries recover their faith in life and their future during their stay at Saint Monica Home.
The transformative power of intersectoral alliances and public/private collaboration is also notable when it comes to facing common challenges with collaborative initiatives for the good of the most vulnerable, reaffirming the power of solidarity and collective action for the construction of a better world.
