The JAR on mission in the Sierra Gorda of Querétaro, Mexico

For the second consecutive year, 28 young Augustinian Recollects -ARY- lived a missionary experience in the Sierra Gorda of Querétaro, Mexico, together with other families and adult missionaries.

The organization lasted several months and was coordinated by a couple of the Secular Augustinian-Recollect Fraternity -FSAR- of San Pio X, in Querétaro: Beatriz Heredia Hernández and Darío Martínez Heredia, who contacted the Father Isaac Osornio, parish priest of Ahuacatlán, who facilitated the coordinators and missionaries served eleven rural communities: Pinal de Amoles, Cantón, Gallo, las Mesas, Alejandría, el Sauz, la Joya, Puerto Escanelilla, Coatlán, Rodezno and el Arpa.

The mission began on March 23 with a sending mass presided over by Father Isaac Osornio in the parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Pinal de Amoles, Querétaro, which was attended not only by ARY missionaries from the Fray Luis de León school but also missionary families and adults from Querétaro and Guanajuato.

Later some lay people from the eleven communities went in search of their missionaries, in this way, the ARY 2024 mission formally began. It should be noted that all mission groups were governed by the same schedule, which gave rise to a good realization and development of the mission, in addition to having broad support from ministers, choirs, sacristans, and readers from the same communities.

In fact, missionaries, lay people and residents gathered to start the day with a rosary and then a visit to the houses of the different rural communities. In the afternoon there were catechisms for adults, children, and young people; Finally, the activities concluded with a mass or liturgy of the word. However, the itinerary of the Easter triduum was different, hence the procedures followed their rhythm depending on the holy day. Thus, on Thursday there was a Holy hour and visit of the seven houses; On Friday there was a Stations of the Cross and a procession of silence and on Saturday a via matris. Of course, the liturgical service was celebrated every day correspondent.

On the other hand, living with people, sharing food with families, and visiting the sick… were a constant throughout the mission, in addition to the fact that Frater David Molina, an Augustinian Recollect, offered the opportunity to celebrate the sacrament of the Penance and the anointing of the sick.

The mission concluded with a Eucharist on Easter Sunday with all the missionaries, presided over by the parochial vicar Juan Carlos Peniche, and a fraternal agape service offered by the parish priest Isaac Osornio.
