Visit of the prior provincial to the Children's City of Costa Rica. March 2024.

The Provincial Visit of Renewal and the celebration of the Tolle Lege Retreat of the Augustinian Recollect Youth have highlighted in this social and educational project the presence of the Augustinian Recollect charism that adds a “plus” to its integral educational mission.

From March 4 to 10, the Prior Provincial of the Province of San Nicholas of Tolentine carried out the official visit of renewal to the Augustinian Recollect community serving in the Costa Rican Boys Town socio-educational center located in the outskirts of the city of Cartago.

Carlos Gonzalez, Prior Provincial, accompanied by the Secretary of the Province, Benjamin Miguelez, visited the community with the objective of evaluating the situation of the religious, to know the quality of the educational service carried out in the ministry. Carlos met with the religious, the educational community and the collaborators separately first and then all together in different events. He also had a meeting with the members of the Augustinian Recollect Family (Secular Fraternity and Augustinian Recollect Youth).

Each of the area managers made a presentation of the current situation. It was possible to observe how the services offered to the beneficiaries varied and adapted over time. The presentation was completed with a tour of all the facilities. Carlos González was able to engage in several conversations with the beneficiaries and collaborators he met along the way, who approached him with confidence to express opinions and suggestions for improvement.

The Prior Provincial also met with the Secular Fraternity, a moment of great joy and experience of the Augustinian Recollect charism. On Sunday, he presided the Eucharist and collaborated on the realization of the Eucharistic meeting with Emmanuel.

There was also a meeting with the Augustinian Recollect Youth (JAR). The young people, their advisors, and accompaniers shared opinions, advice, and motivational words with the Prior Provincial.

Precisely after the end of this official visit, on March 15, 16, and 17, the JAR Milan stage held the Tolle Lege spiritual retreat. This retreat also encourages your passage to the next stage of the JAR itinerary, called Casiciaco. They traveled outside the Boys Town facilities to the San Cristobal North Retreat House to do this.

This retreat has primarily sought to develop the value of interiority through reflections and conversations about their personal human and religious reality, their concerns, and the importance of exercising values such as asceticism, sobriety, and moderation, the foundations of an intense spirituality and a deep and well-grounded happiness.

The fourteen participants of the retreat have decided to follow this call to live their Christian vocation consciously, in community, with commitment and adopting the Gospel values and the Augustinian Recollect charism as sources of spiritual growth and sustenance.
