From January 22 to 29 The City of the Children -COC-, socio-educational center managed by the Augustinian Recollects, received more than 500 young people from all over the country in order to offer them a good comprehensive training. On January 30, the 2024 school year was inaugurated.
The City of the Children is located within a land of more than 130 hectares, near Cartago, Costa Rica, with many educational areas that are made up of more than 130 collaborators dedicated to direct care of the development of students’ abilities and skills. Therefore, after an admission process and successful registration for what was carried out, tours, diffusion in regional and national media about the institution, in addition to all the coverage on COC social networks, more than 150 young people entered their new home on January 22.
The institution welcomed with open arms the families who, with pain, but with hope, deposited their trust in an institution that desires their well-being, not only by forging technical professionals, but also excellent people who become agents of change in Costa Rican society.
On January 29, all regular admission youth (already residents) were received. Thus the community of the institution and preparations for a new year began. On the other hand, united as an institution, on January 30, the inauguration of the academic year 2024 took place, with the celebration of the Eucharist at 8:00 a.m. in the temple of Our Lady of Consolation, from the same socio-educational center, having the privilege of having two members of the Costa Rican Episcopal Conference, Monsignor Mario Quirós, Bishop of Cartago, and Monsignor Javier Román, bishop of Limón. The COC appreciates your presence, your time and for harboring such noble wishes for the boys and the institution itself.
In the rite of offerings were presented the gifts and talents that will be at the service of the people of God, especially from the more than 500 young people from all over the country who were looking in COC for a home to fulfill their dreams and goals.
After the Eucharistic celebration, the opening ceremony of a course was held in the School’s gymnasium full of challenges and a lot of hope. At the event a play was performed, the anthem song was sung of the Augustinian motto 2024 and reported on the areas that will ensure the well-being of all youths.
The COC thanks all the people who help us, contribute and bless this work that seeks to provide the best for young people who require a helping hand, but without forgetting the parents who trust in the institution and provide their support day after day.
