Saint Monica Home's. Augustinian Recollects. Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil.

The project that fights against the exploitation of girls and adolescents in Fortaleza has an outreach program in local society in which it shows the daily reality of the project.

The public communication of a social project has various objectives, such as publicize the project itself, promote awareness of the problem that seeks to shortcut the entire society, raise spirits and will to collaborate various ways or directly show collaborators and benefactors what has been managed to do with those resources that they have contributed.

The Saint Monica Home of the Augustinian Recollects in Fortaleza (Ceará, Brazil) It has recently had two information campaigns of this type. The first has been about those milestones of the year just ended, 2023.

As the most special moments of 2023, the video series “A Life in a minute” that they publish on the Tiktok platform and on Facebook with the testimony of some of the beneficiaries; the reports that several local television networks and regional organizations have made in the project (TV Cidade, TV Câmara); the special activities of games and learning that the beneficiaries liked the most (The Hunt for the treasure, The race) and the festivities of the month of August (when it is celebrated at patron of the project); or the entry of a representative of the project on the Council of Readers of the newspaper O Povo, as an example of the continued mutual support with the civil society.

Furthermore, the Saint Monica Home wanted to make itself known better by recounting five curiosities about himself:

  • All beneficiaries over 14 years of age participate in professional training programs and insertion into the labor market work with the collaboration of various public and private institutions that they offer this training. This allows them, in turn, to leave the Saint Monica Home to participate in these courses, meet new colleagues and friends and rethink vocational options regarding their professional dedication in the future.
  • The Saint Monica Home operates on a 24/7 system, uninterrupted during all year round, and its maximum capacity is 30 beneficiaries, divided into three age groups, each group with its own house and companions.
  • Till the date, the Saint Monica Home has already welcomed more than 200 beneficiaries who have passed through its facilities enjoying all its services and achieving a safe space for integral growth in a moment in their lives when their immediate surroundings had become toxic and violent for them.
  • Saint Monica Home is called “home” precisely because this is its main characteristic for these girls that the competent authorities have sent to prevent or overcome the terrible harms of abuse, exploitation, violence or abandonment. It is a home because they live as similar as possible (being an institution) to a family regime with notes of affection, welcome, trust and total attention to your comprehensive needs.
  • The name of the Saint Monica Home also has a special reference to the mother of Saint Augustine, who lived a life dedicated to the well-being of her son and to get him back for a happy life every time she got sidetracked with false projects or erratic decisions. The conclusion of Monica’s dedication is that today Saint Augustine is a model of a happy life, of accomplished objectives, of offering of a model of life that millions of people in all times have followed by its reliability and its commitment to the love of science, solidarity or community.
