The main objective of this collaboration is the drilling, construction, and maintenance of a well that will guarantee the supply of water to the complex, improving the quality of life of the beneficiaries, educators, and volunteers.
The Water Resources Management Company (COGERH) of Fortaleza (Ceará, Brazil), the Superintendence of Hydraulic Works (SOHIDRA), and the Socio-Environmental Advisory of the COGERH, have agreed with the Santa Monica Home of the Augustinians in Fortaleza to materialize an old dream of the institution: to guarantee access to drinking water in sufficient quantity and quality throughout the year and without worries.
Hogar Santa Monica plays a vital role in local society by providing care and support to girls and adolescents in vulnerable situations, especially victims of sexual violence. The newly signed Public Services Decree will allow the intervention of the Government of the State of Ceará and its management entities to provide drinking water.
The main objective is the drilling, construction and maintenance of a well that will be essential to guarantee the water supply to the complex. In the Brazilian Northeast, where water scarcity is a constant challenge, this initiative represents not only a solution to immediate problems, but a sustainable and long-term measure to guarantee access to this essential resource.
Water is a fundamental and essential right for survival and hygiene, keeping facilities clean or gardens and leisure and play areas always ready. Guaranteeing continuous access to drinking water is critical in the process of comprehensive education of the beneficiaries of the Santa Monica Home, who live in the institution for as long as the competent entities have referred them, such as courts or guardianship councils for minors.
The partnership between COGERH, SOHIDRA, and Hogar Santa Monica inspires the growth of cooperation for the common good when facing challenges and promoting solutions that positively impact people’s lives, especially the most vulnerable.
By combining technical knowledge, resources, and joint efforts, these entities generate a positive and tangible impact on the lives of those who need it most, ensuring not only water but a dignified life and a stable place for those sheltered at the Santa Monica Home to recover from the damage suffered that brought them here.
