The first book by this religious specialized in vocational formation and discernment is offered in PDF format as a service by the author and the Province of Saint Nicholas of Tolentine to the expansion of vocational culture and the affective and spiritual understanding of the fact of “feeling called”.
As of today, the Documents section of the official website of the Province of Saint Nicholas of Tolentine of the Order of Augustinian Recollects offers without any restrictions the full version in PDF format of Restless Heart Beats, the first book of the Augustinian Recollect Fabián Martín (Jalisco, Mexico, 1981).
This book, published on paper by the same institution that now offers it in a digital version, was presented in Madrid on April 26, the feast of Our Lady of Good Counsel, before fifty people.
The author addressed the attendees answering the most basic questions of this literary project: why he decided to write a book, the purpose of choosing this specific topic, the structure and content of the publication together with a summary of the message that wants to broadcast and what preferential audiences it has.
“Give me a heart that loves, and it will understand what I say. Give me a yearning heart, a hungry heart, a man who feels like a pilgrim and thirsty in this desert, a heart that sighs for the source of the eternal homeland, and he will understand what I say.
This phrase from Saint Augustine opened his appearance and explains well the profound implications that our way of being affective and relational as persons has in vocational discernment. It is the idea that unfolds through the 248 pages, which we invite everyone who feels that their heart “is restless” and continually seeks answers, explanations and meaning on a path to happiness to read.
As the author recalled in his presentation of the book:
“I end by saying that the main search of Saint Augustine could be understood as the beating of a restless heart avid for love. Here are his words in the book of Confessions: I was looking for what to love by loving love and I hated security and the path without danger, because I was hungry for inner food, for yourself, oh my God! Loving and being loved was the sweetest thing to me.”
