The entire educational community got underway in the second half of August to offer a series of activities for the families of the beneficiaries, alumni and the local society.
Although the hot Sunday, August 27, was the central day, a week before the Boys’ Town, socio-educational project of the Augustinian Recollects in the vicinity of Cartago (Costa Rica) launched the invitation campaign to the activities that during the last two weeks of August would take place.
On August 24, the celebration opened with the quinquennium festival, in which awards were given to the workers who had been collaborating with the institution for 5, 10 and 15 years.
Celebrities from the country participated in the invitations to Sunday’s party, such as El Porcionzón, stage name of comedian Carlos Ramos, who has worked as a comedian in El Chinamo or at the Light Festival at the end of the year; Alex and Rebe, influencers famous for their story of overcoming after a traffic accident in 2020; and communication programs like Peeling the Eye or Blue Force.
The beneficiaries recorded another invitation video, asking the people of Cartago to join come to the Boys’ Town to participate in the open day and see with their own eyes the environment of growth and comprehensive care of the beneficiaries.
Hundreds of people filled the City of Childre facilities that day, August 27. Among the participants, the ambassador of Spain in Costa Rica, Eva Martínez. The doors were opened at 8 in the morning for the families of the beneficiaries and the members of the educational community and for inhabitants of the entire province of Cartago.
The activities were prepared for children and adults. From nine in the morning there was sports championships. At 9:30 a procession with the image of Saint Augustine passed through the facilities leaving from the Saint Augustine Shelter until half past ten in the morning, when the Eucharist began in the temple of Our Lady of Consolation.
Special protagonists were the former students, who were introduced to everyone at the Thanksgiving. At 11:30 there was a blessing of light vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles and livestock company. It was the first time this possibility had been offered and people responded greatly. number.
At one in the afternoon the parade came out with the folkloric group Caña Brava, the maroon Santa Lucia de Paraíso, the Sueños y Semillas Folkloric Group, the band of the School of Guadalupe Carlos Peralta with more than 90 boys and the band Lions Soul Independiente de Paradise. The beneficiaries wore masquerades made by themselves. The tour began at the fountain, passed behind the Saint Augustine Technical School and ended up in the Plaza of sports. More than 350 people participated in this recreational, cultural and musical outing.
At three in the afternoon a dance was offered in honor of Saint Augustine with the group Armonía, which closed with the traditional signing of the tree by the former students.
In addition, throughout the day there were two inflatables installed for children and adults, a mechanic bull and bumper balls, a fair of more than 540 entrepreneurs, delicious food sales and a Spanish paella. The purpose was to obtain funds for the installation of solar panels and improvements in the bathrooms of a hostel and a residence.
August also offered the good news in the Boys’ Town that the center has won the circuit stage of the Scientific Fair, a championship that promotes technical creativity and science and investigative curiosity in students.
From August 7 to 23, at the La Lima School, the projects were presented. The winner was soapy water reuse project carried out by three students from the City of Children, Freddy Valle, Freddy Obando and Michael Barquero, with the support and advice of the teacher of Sciences of the Agustiniano Technical College, Fernando Chinchilla.
