During the month of July, in a context of school holidays, institutional visits and parties popular, the socio-educational project of the Augustinian Recollects in Fortaleza has named a new general director to Luiza Aparecida, psychologist at the Home.
The municipal legislative power of Fortaleza (Ceará, Brazil), represented in the political system by the Chamber of Councilors, recognized on June 28 the Saint Monica Home as a “relevant entity in guaranteeing the rights of children and adolescents in the city of Fortaleza.
The Augustinian Recollect José García Corcuera collected this tribute, for which the City Council of Fortaleza came to make visible the importance of thirteen years of continuous work in favor of girls and adolescents who have suffered some type of violence, abandonment, exploitation, abuse or violation of their fundamental rights.
This type of honorary recognition is given to non-profit entities, service company, or natural persons who have carried out services to society with their work or dedication, as long as they have philanthropic value and contribute to local development.
The distinction is granted after a councilor or the mayor himself makes a proposal to the plenary session, which votes on it later, and it is received in a formal ceremony.
Luiza Aparecida Dias, new general coordinator
The psychologist from Saint Monica Home who has been accompanying this project since 2010, practically from the beginning of it, Luiza Aparecida Dias (Três Fronteiras, São Paulo, Brazil), was appointed on July 14th general coordinator of Saint Monica Home.
A simple ceremony in the presence of all collaborators, volunteers and beneficiaries served to receive this order from the owner of the project, the Province of Saint Nicholas of Tolentine of the Order of Augustinian Recollects, who continues to practice through the Charitable Association of the Augustinian Recollects in Fortaleza the titular address.
Vacations, visits and pastoral activities
Throughout the month of July, the activities within the Saint Monica Home have taken advantage of both the school holidays of the beneficiaries and the popular festive atmosphere of the festivals called “June” (juninas), whose main ingredients are the festival of Saitn John the Baptist, the famous bonfires and the northeastern rural environment.
At the beginning of July the “arraial” or popular festival took place with costumes, dances and popular food at this time, children’s games and lots of fun for little ones. The workers and volunteers played together with the beneficiaries, creating an atmosphere of fraternity, joy, teamwork and improvement of coexistence among all.
It is a very different way of sharing life and fun from the one that takes place during the course school, which is why it is of great importance so that within the Saint Monica Home strengthen human relations in other planes different from the professional one.
A day was also dedicated to a race, with prizes for the first six positions, and with almost professional preparation, even with heating. The fun was once again insured.
On July 8, there were ophthalmological consultations for all the beneficiaries who were offered by volunteers from the Leiria de Andrade Foundation.
Later there was a visit and a boat ride through the Cocó River Park, one of the most quiet and best cared for in the city of Fortaleza.
On July 16, the baptism and First Communion ceremony of some of the beneficiaries who freely wanted to access the sacraments, after receiving catechism correspondent.
And on July 18, there was a visit by six collaborators from the Dutch NGDO Free a girl, regular collaborator at Saint Monica Home.
