ARCORES in Saragossa, Spain. Romareda High School. Augustinian Recollects.

During the months of April, May and June, the Romareda  School in Zaragoza, Spain, directed by the Augustinian Recollects, has organized activities to promote solidarity and Promote the ARCORES International Solidarity Network throughout the educational community.

The charity race

For the second time at the Romareda school, a gesture of solidarity and generosity was carried out by the different centers of mission and solidarity of the Order of Augustinian Recollects. Indeed, a solidarity race was held with the aim of continuing to give get to know ARCORES to all students, from Pre-school to Baccalaureate.

The Infant and Primary stages carried out “The race for the missions. Augustinian-Recollects” on Friday, April 14. Each course was introduced to one of the territories where the Augustinian Recollects are present: Sierra Leone, Colombia, Philippines, Brazil, Panama and Cuba. On the other hand, the stages of Secondary Education and Baccalaureate carried out “The race for ARCORES”,

Students and teachers ended up very happy and satisfied with the activity, despite Zaragoza wind that played against the development of the race, so the students had to redouble their effort.

The organization of this “race” gives special thanks to Chocolates Lacasa, which they donated lacasitos for each of the students, so at the end of the race. They enjoyed the “lasasitos”, accompanied by a bottle of water and a banana.

Likewise, he shows his gratitude to the Olimpo Athletics Club, which he supported with a bow inflatable and a podium that gave the race a very festive touch. The proceeds from the race will go to the ARCORES project: “Solar dream” which aims to provide families in Sierra Leone and the Philippines with electricity through solar panel kits.

Solidarity Party

In addition to celebrating solidarity on the morning of April 14, in the afternoon held “the first solidarity party” in favor of ARCORES. The activity had the collaboration of thirty parents and twenty young people ARCORES student volunteers with the help of the Pastoral Department. Days of meetings were held in which creative ideas emerged in favor of generosity and educative community.

The following activities were offered, which were liked by many students and families: craft workshops with recycled material, photocall, a gymcana, sports competitions, children’s makeup, a market, storytelling and child care, sale of drinks and popcorn, food trucks.

All the activities were led by mothers and fathers, who dedicated many hours of your time, resources and talents for a cause in favor of families vulnerable in the Philippines and Sierra Leone. The party ended with a feeling general happiness and great satisfaction. It was a very emotional picture to see the schoolyard very full offering activities in favor of solidarity.

Solidarity Raffle

At the end of the solidarity festival, some gifts were raffled off in order to get our objective: financially support the ARCORES solar dream project. The prizes were donations from companies that collaborate with the School, from families, alumni, individuals and teachers. The gifts were left at the College Secretariat from Thursday, March 16 until Wednesday April 12. The response from companies and families was very generous and many gifts were raffled off thanks to the mobilization of mothers and fathers volunteers who went to medium-sized companies to support ARCORES.

The tickets were sold during the solidarity festival and, fortunately, they were all sold, to later hold the solidarity raffle inside the dining room of the school, which was small The money raised, both in the solidarity party and in the raffle, will be used to finance the ARCORES solidarity projects in the Philippines (provide photovoltaic systems for supplying energy to families displaced by natural disasters) and Sierra Leone (access to electricity for 100 families from very remote villages).

The mosaic of the Sustainable Development Goals – SDG

At the beginning of the month of May and throughout the month of June, it was carried out in some courses “the mosaic of the SDG”, an activity proposed by ARCORES that allows working with the 2030 agenda and the sustainable development goals in a pleasant, flexible and adaptable. The use options of this game have been multiple: puzzle, memory, search for couples, exhibition and photocall.

“Totems” on the work of ARCORES in Sierra Leone

In the month of June, an awareness campaign was carried out within the project of cooperation in Sierra Leone, financed by the Council of Zaragoza in 2022. The cooperation project has consisted in the construction of a new school of Primary school on the campus of the Augustinian Recollect Missionaries in St. Paul, Kamalo, Sierra Lioness. For this reason, the Romareda school has exhibited panels related to with the project carried out thanks to the collaboration of the Zaragoza council.
