Solidarity sandwich 2023. Romareda High School. Augustinian Recollects. Saragossa, Spain.

The Romareda College of the Augustinian Recollects in Zaragoza, Spain celebrated the solidarity day, known as the “solidarity sandwich”, to sensitize the educational community to the importance of solidarity. The economic contribution will go to the ARCORES international solidarity network.

The values of justice and solidarity are key at the Romareda School and, as every year, the “Solidarity Sandwich” campaign was held, which had been suspended due to COVID-19, although, to guarantee sanitary measures In other years, it was decided to carry out the solidarity pizza with the help of the school dining room. At the end of March, this day of reflection and generosity was held during recess.

All proceeds from this Campaign will go entirely to collaborating with the projects of the international Augustinian-Recollect network ARCORES, specifically the “Solar Dream” project. Indeed, it is intended to finance an ARCORES solidarity project in the Philippines (provide photovoltaic systems to supply energy to families displaced by natural catastrophes), and another in Sierra Leone (access to electricity for 100 families in villages far removed from major populations).

The Pastoral Department with the help of the tutors invited the students to participate from Infant to High School. Subsequently, the purchase of bread and other foods to prepare the sandwiches was made. Finally, the day of the preparation of the solidarity sandwiches would arrive with the help of forty-eight high school students who are preparing to develop a social competence that will be certified as “volunteers” with the help of ARCORES Spain.

It was also a day of prayer, as all the classes prayed for the beneficiaries of said project and wrote messages of support on a drawn sandwich, which was later glued on a large heart.

The School Management, mainly the Pastoral Department, sincerely appreciate the collaboration of students, teachers and parents in this campaign and in all those that have been carried out throughout the year because they educate more with testimony than with words.
