The Saint Augustine School of Valladolid, directed by the Augustinian Recollects, ended the second term on Wednesday, March 29, with the traditional solidarity race in favor of the Esperanza de Lábrea Centers, (Amazonas, Brazil). All the students joined together showing their solidarity and their enthusiasm for helping.
At the Saint Augustine school there are three solidarity moments or days that we all look forward to with special enthusiasm and live with solidarity: the solidarity race, the solidarity sandwich and the missionary dinner.
Last Wednesday, March 29, at the end of the second term and of Lent, the solidarity race for this course was organized. As every year, the funds raised go to the Esperanza Centers, especially the one in the city of Lábrea.
The race has various preparations. The students receive a solidarity card where the people who are going to sponsor the race sign up. During the previous weeks they tell their family and friends what they are going to do and each one collaborates: €5 for finishing, €10 for each lap….
The second preparation is that each student will run twinned with another student. Those of Infant with the older ones from Primary and younger ones from Secondary, those from Primary with the older ones from Secondary. Each student receives a bib with the name of his partner and has to put the name and paint it.
The last preparation, the closest, is to motivate and remember the reasons why you run. This year a video that the students made in 2015 was recovered:
There are so many students running that you have to divide the students into two groups. The little ones run in the Infant playgrounds and gardens. The older ones run on the soccer fields. Although it is a solidarity race, and the important thing is to participate and finish, there are still students who give themselves and strive to be the first. There are also brave teachers who accompany their students.
At the end of the race, a bottle of water is given to each participant as a reward for their effort and a remedy for their thirst.
It is a day full of joy and solidarity that would not be possible without the Pastoral Department and the entire school family. Without you nothing would be possible!
See you at the next charity activity.
