The Romareda school mobilized its group of high school volunteers for a campaign organized by the Pastoral Department to raise money for the different projects that promote human and social development supported by the Augustinian Recollect International Solidarity Network of ARCORES.
After the return of the Christmas and New Year holidays, the Romareda school community in Zaragoza (Aragon, Spain) restarted their solidarity projects for the little ones. The school’s Pastoral Department launched a toy collection activity that lasted from the 9th to the 27th of January.
A total of 58 high school student volunteered to be solidarity agents for the ARCORES Network and encouraged their classmates to be supportive of the cause. They worked hard to promote the campaign, in the actual collecting of the used but in excellent condition toys visiting classrooms every two days and classifying each toy.
The 5th graders Restless Hearts Club also helped during their weekly gatherings to clean and make each toy presentable for the flea market sale. Solidarity is a value that must be learned during the first years of child development.
The toy collection campaign has been a success and families have been generous. There are several shelves full of toys, to which we must add those that were already packaged and prepared to be part of the solidarity market.
In addition, the pre-k and kindergarten students also celebrated their “Toy Day” on January 13th, coinciding with the general campaign. They learned and practiced that it is always better and more fun to share and play together than to be selfish.
