The Saint Monica’s Home of the Augustinian Recollects in Fortaleza has had some special activities during the months of November and December, such as the visit of the president of the Social Apostolate Commission, the fraternization with the workers and the vacations of the beneficiaries.
Saint Monica Home, a socio-educational project of the Augustinian Recollects in the Brazilian city of Fortaleza whose main objective is to shelter girls and adolescents sent by the competent authorities after suffering some type of abuse, exploitation, abandonment or violence in their context of origin, has received the end of the year 2022 with the joy of the festivities that include the closing of the school year, Christmas and the end of the year.
During the last fifteen days of November, the visit of the president of the Social Apostolate Commission of the Province of Saint Nicholas of Tolentine of the Order of Augustinian Recollects, the institution that owns the social works of Fortaleza that take place in the Home, took place. Saint Monica and the Saint Augustine Psychosocial Center.
José Alberto Moreno, an Augustinian Recollect, knows the project well, of which he has been the founder and director. For two weeks he had a work plan that included an evaluation of the situation of the center, the accompaniment of the management team, conversations about its future, the renewal of the charismatic spirit of the project and everything that could serve to encourage the workers themselves. and collaborators in their task.
Days later and as a thank you at the end of the course, there was a special gathering of all the members of the management team, collaborators, volunteers and close friends of Saint Monica Home. It took place on December 12th at the Paracopeba waterfalls, in the municipality of Redenção, about 70 kilometers west of Fortaleza.
The walks, the food, the speeches of encouragement and the distribution of gifts were part of this day in a welcoming and beautiful natural space. It was also an opportunity to “charge batteries” and to listen in a relaxed way to each one of the collaborators.
The beneficiaries of Saint Monica Home also had their end-of-year school holidays and celebrated them with joy. Several of them had their first contact with an aquatic club and with the fun that a swimming pool provides. This activity took place on December 28th at the Itapark water park.
It was a way of thanking the beneficiaries themselves for their effort at the end of the school year, both in the external school they attend to continue formal education and in the internal activities organized at the Cultural Center.
In addition, with the walk they were able to grow in their social interaction, in their integration with all the other members of the project and with the practice of sociability in an area outside of Saint Monica Home itself.
