Activities in the Boys' Town. Augustinian Recollects. Costa Rica. October 2022.

The socio-educational project of the Augustinian Recollects in the vicinity of Cartago (Costa Rica) goes far beyond the classrooms of the Saint Augustine Technical College and training in semi-professional workshops. Innovation, building a support network, and celebrating diversity are all part of comprehensive education.

Innovation

Osmar Obregón, a tenth-year student at the Boys’ Town, specializing in Agroindustry, has won a university scholarship at the Latin American University of Science and Technology (ULACIT), for his performance as manager of the Samba project, a business simulation that its star product is a vegan salami based on white beans.

For its part, the entire Samba project achieved sixth place in the Junior Achievement contest in which more than 70 companies and entities participated. For this reason, it has been selected for the Junior Adventure Camp 2022 that will take place on October 25th and 26th

For his part, the eleventh-year youth participated with Cricky, a protein biscuit based on cricket flour.

Virtual meeting with the Antarctic Institute of Argentina

On Wednesday, October 5th, students from the Boys’ Town discussed and shared their experiences with students from the Instituto Antártida Argentina. Both educational centers are managed by the Augustinian Recollects.

During the meeting, traditions, typical foods, music, nature, landscapes, weather and sports were discussed. There was also a presentation of each educational center, a description of its facilities, educational programs, school and extracurricular activities…

There was also a moment to share the experiences of some of the participants within the Augustinian Recollect Youth (JAR). Camaraderie, enthusiasm and joint values ​​such as friendship or community were experienced.

Meeting with university orientation students

On October 11th, the visit came from the University of Costa Rica, with first year Guidance students. Its mission was to develop a recreational workshop whose objective was to strengthen the value of operability among third cycle students, sections 7B, 8F and 9C of the Augustinian Technical College.

In this way, the Guidance Department of the Ciudad de los Niños collaborates with the training of future Guidance professionals, taking advantage of their training so that the beneficiaries of the Boys’ Town also have other types of training activities.

October 12th, day of cultures

On October 12th, the Day of Cultural, Pluriethnic and Multicultural Diversity is celebrated in Costa Rica. In the Boys’ Town, a civic act was prepared with different artistic expressions: poetry, music and dance.

Young people thus have the opportunity to know, respect and celebrate cultural differences, as a first step to ensure social justice, equality and the defense of the rights of all.
