During 2019, a total of 35,228.71 euros from eight town halls and a provincial Council have been obtained, although much is still left to enter and send to the chosen projects; EUR 22,022.82 come from membership donations and fees. Social projects have received a total of 32,698.80 euros distributed in projects in Brazil, India, Kenya and Peru in 2019.
The NGOD La Esperanza, a member of the Augustinian Recollect Family and the Augustinian Recollect Women Religious ARCORES International Solidarity Network, has just presented its accounts and memory of activities for the 2019 financial year, which details the nearly 32,700 euros that have been earmarked for various projects in Brazil, India, Kenya and Peru during that year.
In April 2019 it was the 25th anniversary of the NGOD. AgustinosRecoletos.org offered extensive information about this ephemeris:
Feast of the 25th Anniversary of the NGOD La Esperanza: 25 years of hope and witness to solidarity, dedication and love without rest
Video commemorating the 25th years of the NGOD La Esperanza:
The most positive thing about these 25 years has been the long experience accumulated and the great network of friends always formed with the same goal of making a world more just, more humanized, more worthy for all people. The cross of the fundraising is that passing years and fatigue cost, with less actions being carried out and less economic resources obtained for the execution and maintenance of social projects and programs.
During 2019 La Esperanza has collaborated in the maintenance of development cooperation projects in Kenya, Brazil, India and Peru.
Thus, in Kenya the project has been focused on access to safe drinking water in enough quantity and quality and has been developed in Wote. The Augustinian Recollect nuns have been the promoters and managers of this project. As a curiosity, it is a highly sustainable project, given the use of power generation through solar production.
In Brazil, three different types of projects have been developed. On the one hand, a large project of drinking water and sanitation is carried out in a neighborhood of 103 social houses in Lábrea, Amazonas. It is a long-term project and in 2019 funding has been secured and a total of 13 baths and 8 septic tanks have been built.
Support, monitoring and comprehensive care for girls and adolescents victims of abuse, exploitation, abandonment or violence in Fortaleza (Brazil) has been the second field of action in this country. The Santa Monica Home, a project that pays especially for this type of victimology, has received five computers for its area of management, development and communication.
And in Brazil, training and prevention actions with children and adolescents have been supported during2019 through the reform and construction of cleaning areas and showers at the Centro Esperanza of theAugustinian Recollects in Lábrea (Amazonas, Brazil).
Finally, La Esperanza also collaborated with the NGOD Y os lo cuento to send six volunteers to the Casa Hogar Amazonas de Aramango (Bagua, Peru), where they carried out health care and socio-educational workshops. And in India, an economic donation was made to a secular missionary from the same town where La Esperanza was born.
La Esperanza’s income comes mainly from two different areas. On the one hand, there is participation in the annual competitions of public and private entities for development cooperation projects. In this area, in 2019 La Esperanza had aid from the Navarrese town halls of Alsasua, Baztán, Berriozar, Cascante, Cendea de Galar, Cendea de Olza, Lodosa and Tudela, as well as from the Provincial Council of Cadiz. In total, 35,228.71.
Given the time-limits for the receiving of these funds and the award of aid, not all the funding has already been received and sent effectively. In fact, from aid whose competitions were held in 2018 and 2019, the total that has been sent to the destination during 2019 is 21,923.75. The remaining one will be sent throughout 2020, once the resources are received.
The other source of income is membership quotas (985 euros), donations from individuals (13,160.50 euros) and donations received through solidarity markets (3,563.00 euros). The latter were held throughout 2019 in Cortes (Navarra), Irurzun (Navarra), Lodosa (Navarra), Madrid and Zaragoza.
In addition, the agricultural firm Conservas Pedro Luis from Lodosa (Navarra) has again made a yearlydonation of 1,800 containers of high-quality vegetables.
Contributions to social projects came from public funds 78% and 18% from the organization’s ownresources. From the organizational resources the organizational expenses were taken, which have accounted for the remaining 4%. All staff are volunteer, so such expenses are summarized in the maintenance of the premises and vehicle, supplies, bank fees and taxes.
La Esperanza has three active delegations that have carried out various awareness-raising, development education and solidarity activities. Thus, in Navarra, Madrid or Chiclana de la Frontera (Cádiz) information leaflets are distributed, there have been photographic exhibitions, collection of clothes for SOS Africa and hygiene products for Cáritas, solidarity food events, meetings with students of schools, meeting of volunteers…
