A hundred new solar panels were added to the existing 44 so that all the energy needs of the project are met, and the additional resources generated with the surplus energy will be sent to the public distribution network.

The Saint Monica Home, a socio-educational center of the Augustinian Recollects that protects girls and adolescents who have suffered or are at serious risk of abuse, exploitation, violence or abandonment, especially in regard to the violation of their rights to sexual freedom, has taken in recent weeks, a new step in its commitment to the environment and its own sustainability.

To the 44 photovoltaic panels that already existed as a test and appraisement, another 100 have been added, that will allow the generation of sufficient energy for the needs of the center.

In addition, surplus energy will be sent, to the public distribution network, selling the surplus to generate new resources for the sustainability of the center.

In the Saint Monica Home there is a total of ten buildings and areas with power network between offices, library and classrooms, kitchen, events center, residences of volunteers and of girls sheltered by court order; previously, electric power was an ordinary expense that required a large budget.

Moreover, this will also allow greater and better night lighting vision, which at the same time provides better safety for the center. In recent months there have been several robberies and the presence of strangers inside the Uirapurú Spiritual Condominium, where the Santa Mónica Home is located. Although there are various social projects and NGOs present, this natural and social areas are not free from the violence that affects the surrounding society.

With the new panels, it is now possible to install more permanent lighted areas to improve the nighttime security of both the residents of the Home and the property. In fact, 25% of this new lighting can be afforded thanks to the III Solidarity March of the Moon that took place in the Vía Verde del Tajuña and of which we reported on this page a few days ago. A total of 1,007.82 Euros were raised in the activity organized for solidarity by the Asociación AyudaFortaleza and Senderos Solidarios.

New responsibilities

The until now director of the Saint Mónica Home, the Augustinian Recollect José Alberto Moreno, becomes Provincial Councilor and President of the Social Apostolate Commission of the Province of Saint Nicholas Of Tolentine of the Order of Augustinian Recollects, hence he will reside in Madrid beginning next month.

Instead, the Augustinian Recollect José García Corcuera, who comes from the Mission of Labrea, in the Brazilian state of Amazonas, who has managed other important social and education projects. He will now lead this important social project of the Augustinian Recollects in Fortaleza (Ceará, Brazil).

This is a new stage for the people who run this Center, which reflects the continuity of the commitment, effort and dedication of the Province of Saint Nicholas of Tolentine with this project.
